(Ecofin Agency) – Leader in the mobile telephony market, Vodafone is increasing its investments to strengthen its network. Last October, the company deployed a 25 gigabytes per second microwave link, promising an improvement in the quality of Internet service.

Telecom operator Vodafone Egypt signed a series of agreements worth 30 billion Egyptian pounds ($609.6 million) with state-owned Telecom Egypt on Monday, November 11. The strengthened collaboration between the two parties should notably allow the subsidiary of the South African group Vodacom to rely on the infrastructure of the historic operator to strengthen its current services and prepare for the deployment of 5G.

Specifically, this partnership provides for the extension until 2031 of the agreement for data transmission services provided by Telecom Egypt to Vodafone Egypt, in order to support Vodafone’s current and future network expansion programs. It also includes a four-year contract for the fiber optic connection of Vodafone mobile sites. Added to this are other agreements for fixed telecoms and Internet services, among others.

« This partnership illustrates our commitment to the most advanced technological solutions to provide high-quality services to our customers and strengthen our investments in the development of network infrastructure and the deployment of ultra-fast optical fiber“, said Mohamed Abdallah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt.

This partnership should enable Vodafone Egypt to strengthen its leading position in the mobile telephony segment in Egypt. The company is giving itself the means to improve the coverage of its services and reach new subscribers, as well as to improve the quality of services provided to its current subscribers.

Vodafone reported 48.3 million customers as of September 30, 2024. As of August 31, Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) recorded 111.85 million mobile subscribers in a market where , e& (Etisalat) and WE (the mobile subsidiary of Telecom Egypt) are also present.
