The president of the regional government, Carlos Mazón, is directly targeted by popular anger, as is the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.
An explosion of anger against Spanish police officers, more than 10 days after deadly floods in the Valencia region, shows that citizens' hatred is not abating. Mud from flooded streets is thrown onto the facade of the regional government. In the crowd, the word “Assassins” describes their local government, led by Carlos Mazón. “Their negligence caused the deaths of hundreds of people. We do not necessarily demand prison, but at least their resignation,” protests a demonstrator.
At least 220 deaths, caused according to these tens of thousands of demonstrators by the party in place. The red alert was only issued after the devastating rains began. Another reason for the anger: the late arrival of relief and the insufficient means, according to the demonstrators, to rebuild the cities. The people of Valencia had to come to the aid of the victims themselves. The anger is directed as much against regional power as against central power.
