The 27th edition of the Ecomondo exhibition, held in Rimini from November 5 to 8, 2024, brought together more than 1,600 exhibitors from 100 countries, consolidating its status as an essential meeting for the green and circular economy in Europe . This show, recognized for its international reach and its alignment with the objectives of the European Green Deal, highlighted innovative solutions to meet environmental challenges, from waste management to the bioeconomy, including the preservation of natural resources and the protection of marine ecosystems.

A growing event and a major program

This year, the show expanded with the addition of two temporary pavilions, covering a space of 137,000 square meters. This expansion made it possible to diversify the exhibition sectors, including in particular the “Textile District”, dedicated to innovations in fiber recycling, and the “Paper District”, focused on new paper recycling technologies. The “Blue Economy” area attracted particular attention by highlighting the need for sustainable management of marine resources in the face of the challenges posed by climate change

Delegations from more than 120 countries, as well as 60 international sector associations, reinforced the global nature of the event. In partnership with the Foundation for Sustainable Development, the show hosted the States General of the Green Economy, where a report was presented on Italy’s progress in terms of energy transition. Discussions focused in particular on the urgency of accelerating decarbonization and integrating sustainable practices into industries, in line with European climate objectives.

New technologies at the service of the environment

Among the highlights of this edition, Ecomondo 2024 devoted significant space to technological innovations in environmental management. Exhibitors presented solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data to monitor climate change in real time. These technologies allow advanced analysis of environmental data and facilitate the ecological transition, by providing effective tools for climate forecasts and resource management, we read in the columns of EgyptToday.

The show also focused on agriculture 4.0, offering solutions to maximize agricultural yields while protecting local ecosystems. “Urban mining” technologies were exhibited, aimed at recovering valuable raw materials from end-of-life electronic equipment. These practices, at the heart of the circular economy, aim to reduce the exploitation of natural resources by reusing materials already present in our urban environment.

The blue economy and international collaboration

The concept of the blue economy has taken center stage in Ecomondo 2024 discussions, with maritime experts and organizations exploring solutions to protect aquatic ecosystems while boosting the maritime economy. Exhibitors and speakers highlighted the importance of international cooperation to protect ocean and coastal resources. This area of the circular economy presents significant economic opportunities, while ensuring responsible management of marine resources, essential in a context of global warming.

Sustainable development and the private sector: an essential synergy

The show also hosted discussions on the crucial role of the private sector and financial institutions in promoting sustainability. With major players such as international development banks and technology companies, the dialogues highlighted the importance of investing in green technologies and recycling infrastructure. Initiatives were presented to encourage the involvement of businesses in projects aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing CO₂ emissions, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships for a successful ecological transition, noted ENI, a integrated energy company.

Ecomondo: a catalyst for the green transition

In conclusion, Ecomondo 2024 asserts itself as a catalyst for ecological innovation, bringing together the best experts and exhibitors around common sustainability objectives. With a strengthened program and a focus on technological innovation, the event embodies the global commitment towards a circular economy. The initiatives presented this year will serve as a model for concrete solutions in the fight against climate change, from the management of marine resources to new recycling technologies.
