B. Mballo, arrested a week before his wedding, was sentenced to three months in prison for “public outrage of modesty” by the Dakar District Court. According to the prosecution, he exposed his private parts publicly, sparking outrage among residents.
According to the newspaper L’Observateur, B. Mballo is well known in the Gibraltar district, where his behavior has become frequent. He would go there every morning at a time when most men were away, targeting women in the neighborhood by exposing his private parts, an attitude that caused fear and concern among female residents.
On the day of his arrest, when he had to go to Kolda for his wedding, the accused allegedly acted inappropriately again, surprising a local servant in the middle of work. Following the incident, neighbors decided to intervene and took him to the Medina police station.
During his interrogation, the accused mentioned an unexpected justification, claiming to be “under the influence of an irresistible force” and calling himself a “victim of maraboutage”. Words that he reiterated in court, but which did not convince the prosecutor, who had requested a sentence of four months in prison. Mr. Mballo’s lawyer, for his part, regretted the absence of a thorough medical evaluation of his client, affirming that he suffers from epileptic seizures.
