Violence against Israeli supporters in Amsterdam: what we know about the case

Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters experienced a night of extreme violence in Amsterdam on Thursday, November 7.

There was a surge of hatred in the streets of Amsterdam on Thursday evening, November 7. An Israeli fan was violently beaten by individuals who say they are acting in the name of Palestine. Another Israeli fan was thrown into the Amsterdam canal and prevented from getting out by his attackers. Scenes resembling a manhunt at the end of the football match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel Aviv. “For me, it was a pogrom, it targeted Israelis, Jews were attacked because they are Jews”deplores a man.

The Israeli Prime Minister decided to send two military planes to repatriate the supporters. The first is on its way to the Netherlands. Benjamin Netanyahu speaks of premeditated acts. The Dutch Prime Minister also condemned this violence. The match was considered high risk.
