With more than 3,000 units sold, the new Renault 5 E-Tech became the best-selling electric car in November in France. The city car overtakes the Tesla Model Y, which had already lost its crown last October.
The automobile market stagnated since the start of the year. And if this is particularly the case for electric cars, this engine is not the only one responsible for this situation, quite the contrary. But the figures are there, and the situation remains quite tense, especially for certain manufacturers.
The Renault 5 is a hit
This is for example the case of Volkswagen, but also of Ford and even Nissan, which could simply end up disappearing if nothing is done. At Renault, sales of new cars are also down, but this should only be temporary. And in fact, the diamond firm has just proven it to us. The AAA Data firm has just published the figures for electric car registrations for the month of November last in France?
And so, the R5 E-Tech is placed on the highest step of the podium, with no less than 3,316 copies sold last month. It must be said that the city car, which particularly amazed us during our test, has solid arguments, in particular its particularly competitive price. Especially since a new, even more affordable variant was recently launched by the manufacturer. And other good news, the small car benefits from the Origine France Garantie label, just like the Scénic E-Tech.
This one, who had been elected Car of the year 2024finds itself at the foot of the podium, with 1,070 units sold. Just above, we find another tricolor model, which is none other than the Citroën ë-C3, which is a hit with 1,239 units sold in one month. It's a shame, however, that the low-cost city car, which we were able to try, is not not produced in Francebut in Slovakia. Which does not prevent him from still having the right to the ecological bonus which will increase to 3,000 euros next year.
The 2nd step of the podium is occupied by a car that we also know very well. This is the Tesla Model Y, which was sold to 3,175 units last month. The electric SUV, which had once been the most registered electric car in the world, has once again lost its crown. In fact, it had already been relegated to second place in the European market in October, behind the Skoda Enyaq.
Declining sales
Overall, sales of new electric cars are not celebrating, as confirmed by AAA Data. The specialized firm indicates that the latter have down 24% in November compared to the same period last year. A sharp decline, which must however be nuanced. Some manufacturers are still doing much better than others, like Renault, whose EV registrations have increased by 77% in one year. And the R5 is not for nothing…
Remember that in Europe, over the period from January to October 2024, sales of electric cars decreased by 1.7% compared to 2023. France is experiencing growth of 3.3% over the same period.
Peugeot also progressed by 32%, but it was Citroën which did the strongest, with no less than… 286% increase! A success that we owe to its ë-C3, which starts at just 23,000 euros. On the other hand, Tesla fell by 60% in one year, while Dacia Spring tumbled by 72%. And this in particular because it no longer has the right to the ecological bonus since 1is last January, due to its production in China. The city dweller still finds herself 7th place in the ranking in November.
The latter is also completed by the Peugeot e-208, which is placed in 5th position with 889 units, followed by the Renault Mégane E-Tech and its 780 units. The Volkswagen ID.3 remains well present in 8th place, followed by the BMW iX1. Finally, the top 10 is closed by the Fiat 500, only 590 units sold in November. The city car suffers from low demand, which has pushed the manufacturer to pause production on several occasions.
