American presidential audiences 2024: Donald Trump's victory offers a season record to CNews which beats BFMTV, “Télématin” at its lowest on France 2

CNews and BFMTV are doing well. The victory of Donald Trump against Kamala Harris in the 2024 American presidential election boosted, this Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the audiences of the two most prominent news channels in the French audiovisual landscape (PAF ). Credited with an average audience share of 4,5%the Canal+ group channel thus signs its best performance of the season and beats BFMTV (4,4%) on its territory, that of continuous news. This Wednesday, November 6, is nevertheless the second best day of the season for the major channel of Rodolphe Saadé's RMC BFM group, after Thursday, September 5 (4.8%). The American presidential effect was much less felt on LCI (1,9%), which nevertheless claims to be the reference channel internationally, and Franceinfo (1,2%).

BFMTV had, however, started the day off in the best possible way, occupying first place among the news channels between 11:45 p.m. and 3 a.m. (223,000 viewers, 8.2% of the public) then 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

In this last time slot, led by Benjamin Duhamel then Christophe Delay and Adeline François, the tandem of “Première édition”, channel 15 announced in real time the results which reached them from 16.4% of the four-year-old public and more, more than twice as much as France 2 (6.8%), which broadcast the special edition presented by Laurent Delahousse from New York. Followed in order by TF1 (5.6%), LCI (5.1%) and CNews (4.0%).

CNews took over as the day went on. Two programs on the schedule set their historic record this Wednesday: “La matinale”, presented by Romain Desarbres between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., was of interest in fact 370.000 viewers (11.7% of the public) and “Midi News”, played by Sonia Mabrouk, mobilized 475.000 viewers and 4,7% from the public between 12 p.m. and 1:50 p.m.

“L'heure des pros” (9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.), “Punchline” (5 p.m. to 6:56 p.m.) and “Face à l'info” (7 p.m. to 8:05 p.m.) reached, for their part, their audience records this season with respectively 650.000 (16.9% of 4+), 427.000 (4,3%)  et 782.000 viewers (4.5%).

“Télématin” at its lowest level of the season on France 2

On the historical channels side, the continuation of the “American Night USA 2024”, presented by Laurent Delahousse between 3 a.m. and 6:29 a.m., captivated 81,000 viewers on France 2 (8.9% of the public). In the process, “Télématin”, presented by Flavie Flament (in ) and Julien Arnaud (in New York), mobilized 696,000 viewers, i.e. 19,2% of the public. Being below the threshold of 20 audience share points is a first this season for the Deux morning show.

On the channel opposite, the special TF1 system informed 46,000 viewers (5.6% of the public) between 3 a.m. and 5:58 a.m. then 133,000 viewers (7.5%) between 5:58 a.m. and 6:57 a.m. Finally, “Hello!”, presented by Bruce Toussaint, convinced 342,000 viewers and 8.8% of the public between 6:57 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
