At the Legends Museum in Madrid, Yassine Bounou joins the biggest names in football. The Atlas Lions goalkeeper now appears alongside the players who have marked the history of this sport.
Located at Puerta del Sol, in the heart of Madrid, and spread over 4,200 m² and seven floors, the “Legends: Home of football” museum exhibits an impressive collection of relics retracing the history of football and jerseys worn by legends such as Diego Maradona, Pelé, Johan Cruyff, Alfredo Di Stéfano, Lionel Messi, Zinédine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and now Yassine Bounou.
A source of pride according to the museum’s communications director, Paola Herrera Rodriguez, who explained that this museum honors the performance of Bounou, a key player in the Moroccan epic during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Morocco reached fourth place. The Moroccan goalkeeper’s jersey, worn during the match against Spain in the round of 16, bears witness to this historic adventure.
“Yassine Bounou embodies African and Moroccan pride”she told MAP, highlighting the player’s exceptional performances in La Liga with Sevilla FC. She hopes that visitors from Morocco and Africa will feel represented by Bounou in this museum retracing the history of football.
Bounou’s jersey is on display alongside iconic pieces, such as that of Lev Yachine, one of a kind, or those of legends like Alfredo Di Stéfano, Mané Garrincha, and Diego Maradona, whose jersey from the 1986 final is estimated at 20 million euros. Other objects, such as the ball from the first World Cup in 1930 in Uruguay, are also on display.
The museum offers total immersion to visitors, with 4D experiences, a cinema and interactive presentations of the biggest stadiums. A 3D route allows you to relive the history of the World Cup from its first edition in 1930 to that of 2022 in Qatar. A presentation of legendary stadiums such as La Bombonera and Santiago Bernabéu, as well as the future Grand Stade de Casablanca, transports visitors to the heart of these sports arenas.
With more than 5,000 rare objects, this museum, founded by Argentinian Marcelo Ordás Peña, benefits from the support of major football institutions such as FIFA, La Liga, UEFA and CONMEBOL.
