The automotive sector is clearly not at its best. After the announcements from Michelin which will close two factories and eliminate 1,200 jobs in , it is the turn of the car manufacturer Nissan to share its difficulties. The Japanese company has just announced that it will cut 9,000 jobs around the world, due to a clear decline in its sales. The manufacturer has just over 130,000 employees.

Beyond this vast social plan, the company announced that it would reduce its production capacities across the globe by 20%, without specifying a timetable.

The group indicated at the same time that it had revised its revenue and operating profit forecasts for the 2024 financial year downwards. “Faced with the seriousness of the situation, Nissan is taking urgent measures to recover its performance. and create a more responsive and resilient company,” he notes in a press release.

Not the first manufacturer affected

The car manufacturer Volkswagen had already announced cuts in its workforce last month. The company plans to close three factories in Germany as part of a major cost-saving plan. Tens of thousands of job losses are feared.
