Supplementary pensions: an increase from November 1

Nearly 13.5 million retirees affiliated with Agirc-Arrco will see the amount of their supplementary pension increased. Indeed, the Board of Directors of Agirc-Arrco has decided to increase this supplementary pension by 1.6% from November 1, 2024.

A revaluation from November 1, 2024

All employees in the private sector contribute to the Argic-Arrco supplementary pension scheme on a compulsory basis. When you retire, these contributions are converted into retirement points. This is then added to the basic pension paid by Social Security Retirement Insurance.

This supplementary retirement pension has been subject to an annual increase. The trade union and employer organizations making up the board of directors of Argic-Arrco have decided to increase in the amount of these pensions of 1.6% effective since November 1. For example, for a pension of €500, this represents around €8 per month more according to La Dépêche.

A rather small increase, but expected

This increase is, however, less significant than in previous years. Indeed, in 2023, this supplementary retirement pension saw an increase of 4.9% and 5.2% in 2022. This small increase is explained by inflation, the main factor in the increase. In fact, this was revised downwards a few days ago. At the start of 2024, INSEE forecast a price increase of around 2.2% over the year. However, this figure was reduced on October 15 to 1.8%, according to INSEE data.

2022 5,2 %
2023 4,9 %
2024 1,6 %

Figures taken from INSEE data

According to the Drees, if we take into account all resources, the standard of living of retirees is on average “slightly higher than that of the entire population”. This is particularly due to the fact that retirees often own their homes and therefore rarely have to pay rent. But, it is still possible for a retiree to find themselves with several current consumer loans, which lead them to consider restructuring their debts, through a consumer loan buyout for example.

As part of the 2025 budget, the Barnier government announced the postponement of the pension increase by six months. In fact, pensions were to be revalued from January 2025, taking into account inflation. Ultimately, this revaluation will only take place in July 2025. This is why, even if it is not as high as hoped for by eligible retirees, the revaluation of the supplementary retirement pension from November 2024 remains expected. .
