Michel Preud’homme put himself back in the spotlight this Monday by being one of the 10 nominees for the Hall of Fame. The former sports director of Standard is truly at peace.

Among the 10 inductees into the Hall Of Fame, if you were to ask us our opinionMichel Preud’homme should always be there. The former goalkeeper for Standard Liège and KV Mechelen, champion with both teams and winner of the European Cup Winners’ Cup, was ultimately one of the acclaimed players.

“It’s not so obvious, because there are so many players and it’s so difficult to compare the periods,” replies Preud’homme when asked about this. “Of course, I knew that I had been important in the history of Belgian football, but you never really know to what extent.”

A great modesty from the greatest goalkeeper in the history of our championship. “Our football has always had great goalkeepers. I am quite surprised that me and Pfaff are inducted into the Hall of Fame because that makes two goalkeepers,” smiles Preud’homme. “But it’s good, because out of ten inductees, it’s very complicated.”

From now on, Preud’homme is no longer the type to seek honors or to put himself forward in the Pro League. “I am retired, I play a lot of golf and am also handicap 8,” says the former sports director of Standard.

“Besides, this gold jacket from a Hall of Fame nominee is a bit reminiscent of the green jacket from Augusta for the Masters of golf. I am very happy to get it, and very proud,” concluded Preud’homme with the smile.
