The former special prosecutor of the Court for the Repression of Illicit Enrichment (Crei) is categorical. In an interview published this Monday in L’Observateur, Alioune Ndao affirms that “Macky Sall will not come to Senegal”. “He feels that he is threatened,” justifies the former magistrate, responding to a question on the possibility of trying the former head of state on national soil.
Head of the national list of the Takku-Wallu coalition for the next legislative elections, Macky Sall was announced on his way back home by some of his supporters. The latter affirmed that the former President was going to take part physically in the electoral campaign. The person concerned had tempered the ardor, indicating that he himself will notify the day he decides to return to Senegal.
For Alioune Ndao, this day will not arrive as long as the threat of legal proceedings hangs over the head of the leader of the Apr. Therefore, he understands, Macky Sall should not be imprisoned. “If he is not in Senegal, it will be almost impossible to put him in prison, even with an arrest warrant.”
The former special prosecutor argues: “I learned that with Crei. There are some countries that cooperate and others that don’t. And as long as a state does not cooperate, an arrest warrant is never executed in its country. However, I do not think that the king of Morocco will agree to extradite Macky Sall. These are legal obstacles. We can try him in absentia, condemn him, but this decision will never be executed as long as he is in Morocco.”
