American election 2024: an anti-Trump already ready to return to Quebec

A Quebecer who has lived in North Carolina for nearly 30 years is already ready to return to live in Montreal if Donald Trump is elected president on November 5.

“I bought a pied-à-terre in Montreal in case this election leads[rait] to other insurrections, like those we experienced with the assault on the Capitol in January 2021,” explains Jean-Luc Pilon seriously.

This retiree, who lives with his family in the capital Raleigh, says he has never been so “concerned” about the future of his adopted country. He also accuses Donald Trump of having waged a trade and tariff war with the rest of the world and of multiplying lies… like when he said that immigrants from Springfield (Ohio) ate dogs and cats .

“What worries me the most is that if he is elected, it would not surprise me if he wanted to become a dictator. He already has the Supreme Court in his pocket with a majority of conservative judges on his side,” laments the 69-year-old North Carolinian.

«Rednecks» pour Trump

Jean-Luc Pilon especially hopes that the rural population of North Carolina will vote for Kamala Harris, even if the voters of his state have always voted for the Republicans since 1976. With one exception: in 2008, with the Democratic candidate Barack Obama .

“We have a lot of rednecks who vote for Trump here, unfortunately. However, they should choose Kamala Harris who offers to help them by lowering taxes on the middle class and increasing taxes on the rich, contrary to Republican policies. It’s a big lack of education,” analyzes the Quebecer in impeccable French.
