We will have seen everything in Senegal. We saw Karim Wade, a leader who manages his party from Qatar, who submits his sponsorships while being in Qatar and is running for president while still in Qatar. He manages everything over the phone. Today, it is former President Macky Sall who is achieving yet another feat by campaigning for the early legislative elections of November 17, 2024 in Senegal from Morocco where he resides in a luxurious Riad in Marrakech.
Macky had promised to return to Senegal to fight alongside his supporters before changing his mind. Macky Sall, in the shade of the olive trees of his Riad, watches his supporters suffocate in the face of an increasingly threatening Sonko.
Macky Sall, head of the list of the Takku Wallu coalition which brings together the APR and Wade’s PDS, will not come to Senegal to campaign for the early legislative elections of November 17, 2024. His procrastination on a possible return to Senegal for the campaign for the Legislative, convinced more than one about Macky Sall’s intentions. He does not intend to return to Senegal and his words prove it.
« My return to Senegal is not yet on the agenda. Once decided, I will make an official announcement myself and the information will circulate. By leaving Senegal, I only respected tradition, because when a president has remained in power for a long time, he must step down to leave it to his successors so that they can run smoothly. » declared Macky Sall in an interview with RFI Fulbe.
And that’s not all. During a meeting of the two heads of the Takku Wallu Senegal list in Kaolack (Ahmed Youssouf Bengelloune and Astou Ndiaye), the outgoing president and head of the Takku Wallu Senegal list contacted the leaders of his Saloum coalition by telephone to return to the stakes of these anticipated legislative elections in 2024. President Macky Sall invited himself to the smartphone of former minister Mariama Sarr to challenge activists on the issues of the Legislative elections.
« The country is heading straight towards a future that does not bode well. If we do nothing, the country will head straight towards difficult days for all segments of society. It was you yourself who said that the country is not working so let’s work to make the country work again. We must overcome internal divisions and quarrels for the sole benefit of the Senegalese people. This is why I agreed to be head of the Takku Wakku list to contribute to this enterprise of saving Senegal. We need to mobilize more across large neighborhoods, among parents and loved ones for a resounding victory on November 17 » he said on the phone.
This is Macky’s modus operandi. He stays in his Riad in Marrakech, under the olive and orange trees, telephone in one hand and glass of tea in another, Macky Sall calls his supporters on video and harangues them. Words and nothing but words. And all this around a bowl of Moroccan couscous. Macky Sall enjoys his luxury and calm far from the tumult of the countryside and the harassment of the PM who spends his time threatening his political adversaries.
And from Marrakech Macky Sall said again on the phone: “ The mobilization that I saw today reassures me. Persevere in this dynamic and victory will be in order “. First of all, Macky Sall talks about a mobilization that he saw on the phone. Then he asks his activists to persevere and victory will be achieved. And what is he doing all this time? He stays on the phone and campaigns. And he even talks about victory just by seeing a meeting on…the telephone.
Macky Sall seems to forget that being absent in the political arena is synonymous with failure. He exiled Karim Wade to Qatar and the latter failed in all the elections in which he participated. Absent from the political field, Karim Wade has not won a single election in Senegal. And Macky Sall, today, following in the footsteps of Karim Wade, hopes to win these legislative elections. Perhaps he is counting on a mystical joker to do better than Karim Wade…
