Two people lost their lives on Saturday afternoon in a violent head-on collision on the A13 motorway near Andeer (GR). Five others were injured, including two children seriously.
The victims are a 43-year-old man and his passenger. They died at the scene of the accident, the Graubünden cantonal police said on Sunday. The ambulance transported another female passenger from that vehicle to the hospital.
The 69-year-old woman responsible for the accident and the two children who accompanied her were seriously injured and taken to hospital. Another passenger was taken to hospital by ambulance, according to the release.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m., when the 69-year-old driver, who was coming from the south towards Thusis, found herself going in the wrong direction near Andeer, colliding head-on with a vehicle traveling correctly and driven by the 43-year-old man, who was driving towards San Bernardino.
Traffic diverted for several hours
Traffic was diverted for several hours on the cantonal road. The public prosecutor and the cantonal police have opened an investigation.
Questioned on Sunday, a spokesperson for the Graubünden cantonal police was unable to specify whether the injured were in serious danger.
