During his state visit to Morocco, Emmanuel Macron presented essential strategies for developing sustainable agricultural systems in Africa. The French president highlighted the major challenge posed by the lack of advanced infrastructure in the agricultural sector. He underlined the urgency of rethinking the Mediterranean agricultural model in the face of increasing water scarcity.

On October 30, 2024, in Rabat, Emmanuel Macron spoke at the headquarters of the OCP Foundation (Office Cherifien des Phosphates) during an exchange on food security and sustainable agriculture. The meeting, entitled “Exchanges on food security: perspectives of cooperation for sustainable agricultural and food systems”, provided an opportunity to discuss key strategies to ensure the sustainability of agricultural systems in Africa.

Among the points discussed, the president highlighted the importance of water management through watershed mapping. He also discussed the sustainable development of agricultural sectors, emphasizing the need to formalize agriculture to generate jobs. Training and integrated research were presented as crucial elements for strengthening agricultural capacities.

Emmanuel Macron called for the creation of platforms that link agricultural projects to financing. He noted: “We have many micro-projects and a lot of money, but the difficulty lies in connecting the two. »

He also discussed the Great Green Wall (GMV) project, an investment of $19 billion, which was revitalized in 2021. This project aims to get populations out of the informal economy, to fertilize soils, to fight against desertification and to recreate biodiversity. Emmanuel Macron concluded by emphasizing that this project contributes to strengthening resilience in the face of migration and the destabilization that fuels trafficking and terrorism.
