A person accompanying a patient attacked a doctor who works at Fann hospital in Dakar. Very angry following the death of his patient, he also destroyed the intensive care monitor which cost 5 million CFA francs. Professor Moussa Seydi, head of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department (Smit), spoke to L’Observateur: “the attacker entered the intensive care unit around 4 p.m. to destroy the intensive care monitor and attacked the doctor found on the scene, before overturning the treatment cart.

The events took place on August 24, in the intensive care unit of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department (Smit). According to the newspaper which goes into details, “an Ivorian national who had a patient hospitalized and subsequently died attacked a doctor in the unit before destroying the equipment including the monitor which cost around 5 million CFA francs”.

Following this incident, added the same source, the general director of Fann hospital, responsible for the management of the high-level health establishment, did not file due to the promises made by [la famille de l’agresseur].

“An amicable arrangement was reached between the family of the attacker [dont son beau-père, D. Mounagal] and the general director of Fann hospital, in the presence of a notable person from the Ouakam community, but reimbursement was not made,” said Professor Seydi.

Following the non-compliance with the commitments made by the family of the accused, a complaint was filed by the hospital management “three months later” at the Point E police station.

For his part, the newspaper informs, Professor Seydi sent a letter to the Ministry of Health to “inform it of his complaint” and “request its intervention for a resolution of this matter”.

Before cursing: “How many Senegalese people die in hospitals every day, do their families destroy equipment or attack doctors?”
