A find as intriguing as it is mysterious. A human skull wrapped in newspaper more than fifty years old was discovered Thursday in a garage in Grenoble, police said. The Isère police indicated in their daily press briefing that they had made the “discovery in a garage of a human skull, in a cauldron wrapped in a newspaper dating from 1967”.
The skull was discovered around 1 p.m. in the Chorier-Berriat district, a former industrial district in the west of the city, she details in a press release. The garage was “not really abandoned but not used for a long time,” Grenoble prosecutor Eric Vaillant told AFP.
An open investigation
“The person who discovered the skull comes from the Paris region, she inherited the garage of a deceased great-uncle and she was clearing it out before selling it,” said the prosecution. “An investigation into the causes of death is open and the skull will be sent for expertise for dating,” according to Eric Vaillant, who specified that at this stage “the criminal trail is no more privileged than any other “.
