A man suspected of being behind the death of Lilian Dejean, a municipal employee shot dead in Grenoble on September 8, 2024, was arrested in Portugal, Eric Vaillant, the public prosecutor, confirmed this Friday, November 22 from Grenoble.
He was arrested Thursday, November 21 around 5 p.m. in Póvoa de Lanhoso, a municipality located 70 km north of Porto (Portugal), thanks to the mobilization of more than 40 investigators from the Isère judicial police, supported by specialist investigators from Lyon. But also thanks to the effective collaboration with the Portuguese police and authorities, recalled the magistrate.
The suspect arrested is Abdul Diallo. He is 24 years old. His identity card was found in the vehicle that he himself crashed before fatally shooting Lilian Dejean in the chest in front of Grenoble town hall, while the latter was trying to prevent him from fleeing. .
Detained in Portugal
According to the prosecutor's details, Abdul Diallo was incarcerated for the first time by the Grenoble children's judge at the age of 15. 19 convictions are recorded in the criminal record, notably for acts of violence and drug trafficking. A. Diallo was sentenced to six years in prison over the last ten years. “Currently he is detained in Portugal under the European arrest warrant issued by the Grenoble investigating judge. He will be handed over to this magistrate in the coming weeks,” said Eric Vaillant.
The prosecution mentioned the existence of a video showing the shot which had hit the 49-year-old father and municipal employee at the City of Grenoble.
Investigations will be carried out to determine the possible involvement of people likely to have helped the suspect on the run.
