Municipal elections 2026 in Paris: Rachida Dati, “a very good candidate”, according to the leader of Renaissance

Shortly after being appointed Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati affirmed that the capital “remained an objective for (her)”. This Friday on Franceinfo, Sylvain Maillard, leader of the Renaissance group, believes that the mayor of the 7th arrondissement, number 1 opposition figure to Anne Hidalgo's policy, “could be a very good candidate” under the banner of her party.

The head of Renaissance Paris specifies that the choice of his group's candidate will not be revealed until “the first quarter of 2025”. For now, Renaissance is installing its partition. “We want a work-study program (…) We want something else,” indicates Sylvain Maillard, according to whom his colleagues are working on a program while awaiting the appointment of a candidate. “I hope that a natural candidate will emerge and allow us to build a rotation. But we need a candidate who can bring people together as widely as possible,” he insists.

But nothing is done for the current minister. According to our exclusive survey on the voting intentions of Parisians published on Sunday, another political actor from the majority could be favored by voters. To the question “Who would make a good mayor of Paris”, 42% of voters placed in the lead a personality who has not yet made public his intention to run, former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.

As early as January, many political observers suggested that Rachida Dati had reached an agreement with Emmanuel Macron for the next municipal elections. “I am delighted to see that there are different possibilities in our camp,” commented Sylvain Maillard this Friday. I welcome the possibility of a choice. On the contrary, it is better to have a lot of talents who can potentially become mayor of Paris rather than having none,” he reacted this Friday to our colleagues.

Behind him, Rachida Dati arrives with 39% of the votes, far ahead of the current mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo (28%) and her former first deputy Emmanuel Grégoire (16%), who expressed his desire in our columns to take part in these municipal elections.

On the left, communist senator Ian Brossat also said he was “available” and “capable” of taking on the supreme office of the capital, in the event that Anne Hidalgo did not run again. The councilor has already shown his support for the former mayor of the 10th Rémi Féraud, faithful among the faithful, who ensures that he is “preparing”.
