Courtois and Kroos at the top, Bellingham in pain: the notes of the RTL Sports Jury after the Champions League final

The Champions League final has delivered its verdict. Real Madrid won the trophy for the fifteenth time in its history, after a complicated duel against Borussia Dortmund. Here’s what the members of the RTL Sports Jury thought.

The Champions League final is now behind us. Real Madrid was able to make the difference by winning 0-2, after a hard-fought final, against a great Dortmund team. Our RTL Sports Jury took the opportunity to give their notes, in the form of a color code. The green card rewards players who played a good match. The orange card is awarded to those who could have done better, while the red card is awarded to those who missed their point.

We take stock of the notes from our experts.

Green: a good match

Several players received honors after this final. For Silvio Proto, Tony Kroos deserves it, he who completed his legendary spell at Real Madrid with a new European trophy. “He ended his Madrid career with a victory in the Champions League, giving an assist. He didn’t have the best match of his career, but for me, for history, he’s the one I’m taking“, the former goalkeeper tells us.

Vincenzo Ciuro opts for Thibaut Courtoiswho played an interesting final, confirming his status among the Spanish poles. “He was decisive during a half by showing why he was the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s incomprehensible that he’s not at the Euro”regrets the RTL sports chief, who would also have liked to quote Dani Carvajal or Toni Kroos.

For Alexandre Braeckman, despite the defeat, he is the defender Mats Hummels who deserves the tributes. “Even if he was beaten in this final, I think he was impeccable. Physically, he is monstrous, he reads the game well, he played the game well with his experience. He’s a model to follow for central defenders, I found him excellent today.”estimates our journalist.

Orange: can do better

Time for the first less laudatory notes. In orange, Jude Bellingham is designated by both Silvio Proto and Alexandre Braeckman. “We hardly saw him, but he saved his match with the assist he gave on Vinicius’ goal”says the former goalkeeper. “His assist changes a lot of things”engages Alexandre Braeckman. “He was imprecise, he seemed a little too stressed, like his second half of the season. He asked himself too many questions, he tried to complicate too many phases. But he remains an exceptional midfielder with this decisive pass”he then explains.

For Vincenzo Ciuro, it is Karim Adeyemi who deserves this appreciation. “He had a great match, but he needs to do better on the chances he gets. Perhaps it is he who holds the key to the match in the first half, it is this inefficiency of Borussia which may have cost them the final.”regrets our commentator.

Red: bad match

Finally, place for those who missed their subject. Silvio Proto and Vincenzo Ciuro join in naming Ian Maatsen, guilty of the goals conceded in the second half. “It’s him who drops the man on the corner and it’s a big mistake that allows Real Madrid to lead. His mistake allows Real Madrid to enter the match and lead the score”Proto analysis. “He gives Bellingham the pass which leads to the second goal, but I think it’s hard in this final”believes Vincenzo Ciuro.

Alexandre Braeckman, finally, points out Jadon Sancho in red. “We didn’t see him at all. He was messy and didn’t manage to make the differences where we’re used to seeing him. Particularly in the speed, the percussion. He’s the one who had the worst match compared to what I hoped for”justifies our journalist.
