A new feminicide in 2024. A 90-year-old man killed his wife before ending his life on Saturday in Trélissac, near Périgueux (Dordogne), we learned from a police source.

The man himself alerted the police on Saturday morning at 5:50 a.m. He told them he had killed his wife and intended to end his life.

On site, the police discovered the lifeless bodies of the two elderly people in the bedroom. The two victims each had a bullet hole in the chest.

A hunting rifle was found near the bodies. A letter left by the author to explain his actions was also discovered, according to the police.

“The preferred hypothesis at this stage of the investigations is that of a homicide by a spouse committed by the husband, followed by the suicide of the latter,” indicated the Périgueux prosecutor in a press release, cited by Bleu Périgord. The prosecutor clarified that the husband had no criminal record and that an autopsy would be carried out.

Neighbors interviewed by radio said the woman was seriously ill for around ten years and no longer left the house alone.

According to official figures, which only concern marital feminicides, 833 femicides were committed between 2017 and 2023. No official data is yet available for the current year. On average, a feminicide occurs every three days in France.
