COUNTDOWN OCTOBER 17, 2024 / NOVEMBER 17, 2024

In exactly one month to the day, Senegal will elect the deputies who will sit in the National Assembly. These will be legislative elections with multiple issues with the participation of the leaders of Senegalese political life.

Already on the starting blocks, we note the presence of the majority of political parties in the running.

Let’s start with the Takou Wallou coalition of former head of state Macky Sall reinforced by the Senegalese Democratic Party under the leadership of Karim Meissa Wade who will face Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party who thinks he can win this election without a coalition but only with its political party winning the last presidential elections of March 2024 with a score of 54.28 percent of the votes.

A risky bet for the power in place which wishes to have a majority in the national assembly in order to be able to initiate systemic reforms in line with the ideals of the Pastef Party.

Then, another candidate to take very seriously, Amadou Ba who has just created a political group called New Responsibility. The former Prime Minister came second in the last presidential election with a score of 35.79 percent of the vote.

Among the giant candidates for these legislative elections, there is also Barthelemy Dias, mayor of Dakar, the Senegalese capital, in coalition with Dethié Fall, Thierno Bocoum, Arc de Anta Babacar, the only woman who had reached the sponsorship milestone during the last presidential election, Guem Sa Bopeu of Bougane Guéye Dany very present on the political scene, the Pur of Serigne Moustapha SY party came third in the last presidential election with a score of 2.80% and so many other Senegalese known for their commitment citizen politics.

Which augurs a vote synonymous with a new political configuration in Senegal.

This meeting will undoubtedly be a life-size test for young, long-toothed guns like Bougane Guéye Dany, Anta Babacar Ngom, Thierno Bocoum, Pape Djibril Fall or Aliou Mamadou Dia.

Electoral contests which may well hold surprises in view of the latest developments in Senegal. At the end of these, it will be a question of definitively deciding between certain political formations in confrontation for several years in this case the Pds, the Apr, Taxawu of Khalipha Sall, New Responsibility of Amadou Ba and the Pastef of Ousmane Sonko.

A legislative election driving a paradigm shift in Senegal.

A country facing major challenges for its economic and social development.
