“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In due time, and when everyone is able to do so, we will have more to say. But for now, we are going to take the time to grieve and digest the loss of our brother, whom we loved very much,” reacted Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik in a post on Instagram. This is the first post on the group’s account since 2020.

Mr. Tomlinson took the time to post on his personal account. “I am devastated to write this, but yesterday I lost a brother. Liam was someone I admired every day, a positive, funny and kind soul,” he wrote on the same social network.

He also clarified that he considers himself “lucky” to have had him in his life and that he is grateful for “the thousands of incredible memories” with his friend. Mr. Tomlinson also mentioned Bear, Mr. Payne’s son, saying that he will be “the uncle he needs in his life” and that he will tell him stories about his “amazing” father.

“I never had the chance to thank you for supporting me through some of the hardest times of my life,” Zayn Malik wrote in a post on his personal account. I hope that wherever you are right now, that you are well and at peace. […] I love you my brother.”

Aged only 31, musician and singer Liam Payne lost his life on Wednesday evening after falling from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He suffered “internal and external bleeding” following the fall, a police source told AFP.

He allegedly behaved “erratically” shortly before the fall in the hotel lobby and was “aggressive under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” according to TMZ.
