Over the past few years, the instant messaging application has regularly introduced changes aimed at modernizing its design and enriching the user experience. She thus saw the arrival of artificial intelligence, the addition of new features with one of the most recent the possibility of taking advantage of new options in the video player. Recently, WhatsApp was testing more than 20 different chat themes, applicable individually to each conversation for greater personalization.

Now, digging into the code of the Android 2.24.22.4 beta version of the app, a few changes regarding colors have been spotted. The main one concerns the background color of the interface. WhatsApp changes from a slightly bluish black (#0b141a) to a deeper black (#0a1014). This change is certainly subtle but significant.

The objective of this transition to a more intense black is multiple. First of all, it allows you to better highlight the other elements of the user interface. For example, the green button to start a new conversation and the Meta AI logo stand out more with this new background.

Plus, this deeper black aligns with current app design trends. It meets the needs of users of smartphones equipped with OLED screens, which are increasingly common on the market. On these screens, a more intense black offers several advantages:

• It reduces eye fatigue, especially during prolonged use or in poorly lit environments.

• It allows better readability of incoming messages, thanks to increased contrast.

• It helps save the battery of the smartphone, the black pixels of OLED screens do not consume energy.

Besides, the app is also working on a darker top bar for its Android beta version. This change is still in development and should be rolled out to beta testers soon.
