Do you like ice cream? Do you like mustard sausages? So you will love the bratwurst and mustard flavored ice cream, sold in a stand at the Swiss agricultural show in St. Gallen. In any case, that’s what the ice cream makers who created this taste, which is astonishing to say the least, must have said to themselves when they had the idea. And their bet has almost succeeded.

Some visitors to the St. Gallen event find it refreshing, like Jolina: “It’s not sweet at all – which is quite unusual for an ice cream.” Maelle agrees: “Actually, it’s pretty good.” Another girl, Dalia, likes the taste of sausage, but grimaces when the aftertaste of mustard takes over: “It’s too strong, I can’t.”

Nicolas couldn’t resist and immediately bought himself a ball. “It tastes like a grill sausage straight from the fridge – but somehow it’s thin,” he says. “A really special taste that I can’t classify,” says Gian. When he finally learned what the ice cream actually contained, he was slightly shocked: “I wouldn’t buy it a second time.”

Florian Stähli is the co-founder of Kalte Lust, ice cream parlor and manufacturer of the product. On Monday, the company launched three new flavors at the Coop. But the challenge was to attract customers to eat ice cream during winter. And the Olma was the perfect opportunity for this, according to him: “We certainly know that they eat grilled sausages here without mustard, but to challenge the visitors a little, we make them with mustard.” It is therefore not excluded that one day these ice creams will appear on the shelves of the Coop in French-speaking Switzerland.
