Rabat – Twelve artists from Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa unveiled their works on Wednesday in Rabat as part of the collective exhibition entitled “Rooted in, but not limited by”, offering a journey through time between traditions African cultures, authenticity, innovations and modernity.

Organized in partnership with independent exhibition curator Tania Chorfi, Galerie 38 and the Arkane Association, on the occasion of the 2nd edition of the Assises des Industries Culturelles et Créatives in Rabat, this two-day exhibition (October 2 and 3) aims to be a showcase of African creativity and innovation, highlighting both the attachment of these artists to their cultural heritage and their desire to communicate with the world.

Transcending geographical and historical obstacles, these artists exhibit works entirely created in Morocco to paint the social, economic and cultural realities of the Continent, “in order to transmit different messages which convey their visions regarding Africa’s place in the world” .

Carriers of the aspirations and hopes of theirs, the works of these women and men invite questioning, research and exploration of oneself in interaction with the Other, while making creation a driving force capable of shaking up the preconceived ideas.

In a statement to MAP, the curator of the exhibition, Michèle Desmottes, explained that the creation of all these works in Morocco testifies to the importance of the Kingdom as a “land of hospitality” and a source of inspiration.

“These artists are deeply attached to the heritage of the Continent and to today’s reality,” she indicated, specifying that this exhibition shows different works testifying to the strength and creativity of contemporary art. Moroccan and African, thus placing Africa in the global history of this artistic movement.

As a true “creative crossroads”, this exhibition offers the public the opportunity to discover, through an artistic prism, African creative beauty in its most ingenious and authentic aspects, through varied creations that challenge the ordinary to subtly embody an interconnection between eras, traditions, innovations, lands and ideas.

Organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Federation of Cultural and Creative Industries of the CGEM, with the support of the European Union in Morocco, this 2nd edition of the Conference of Cultural and Creative Industries allows us to think about the future of this dynamic sector, creator of wealth, jobs, emotions and meaning in the service of the influence of the Kingdom, while exploring new trends in governance , financing and digital transformation.
