“Sometimes you have to take photos, and it’s quite amusing to see Koreans with tears in their eyes in front of Calvin’s chair,” Bruno Gérard is always surprised. Sitting in his office in Geneva’s Old Town, a few steps from Saint-Pierre Cathedral of which he has been pastor since 2021, the man has come a long way from the town of Saint-Etienne where he was born. Does the shadow of his compatriot, the great reformer, who preached for twenty-three years at Saint-Pierre, sometimes come to weigh on his shoulders? “On the contrary. His writings have always been a great inspiration to me. I also find it very unfortunate that he is only remembered as an austere and sad man. He particularly speaks of wine as a celebration, a true gift from God.”
