the search function should extend to videos

After image search, Google’s handy Circle to Search feature should improve and support video search. The circle is closed.

The Circle to Search functionality, allowing you to search by circling what appears on your screen, should be extended to search on videos.

Google ! Go get it!

Presented with great fanfare during the presentation of the Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24, Circle to Search is a practical search tool for starting a Google search. By surrounding the object of your searches on your screen, Google launches an associated search allowing you to find the reference of said object and the information corresponding to it.

We learn via Android Authoritythat a new version of the Google application has a reference to Circle to Search in its lines of code. Called “contextual video search,” this feature suggests that Circle to Search is now expanding to videos.

This information comes from the APK teardown which allows you to see the code of an application and predict certain features that could arrive on the latter.

Their teams have so far failed to activate this mode, assuming that it will be necessary to wait for new versions.

A new research method

By signing this new search method, Google would close the loop. No need to describe with more or less precision the object of your research, you will be able to directly target the starting point of your research. Android Authority imagine it would be possible to search from any type of video, whether stored locally or online. If we can easily imagine the methods of use, we can have reservations about the power that such a function would require.

While waiting to see the feature land, you can always go to YouTube and test its AI allowing you to ask questions about the videos you are watching.
