UDC president sentenced for false Covid certificates

The Criminal Court of Broye and Northern Vaud yesterday sentenced Christophe Loperetti to 15 months in prison with a 2-year suspended sentence for forgery of securities. The president of the UDC of Yverdon (VD) was found guilty of trafficking in false Covid certificates.

In 2022, the police discovered that he had resold 49 fake Covid passes purchased in France for between 350 and 450 francs each. According to prosecutor Christian Maire, this trafficking had allowed “the beneficiaries of these false titles, unvaccinated, to illicitly obtain the advantages linked to the possession of such a document”, we can read in “24 Heures”. He requested a custodial sentence of 19 months suspended for 3 years.

The accused, who is a municipal councilor, tried to say that he had acted in this way to fight against the discrimination which affected unvaccinated people, while the court leaned towards personal enrichment. The judge also did not follow Christophe Loperetti’s lawyer, who pleaded harassment against his client, “because he is a disturbing politician, because he is a friend of a troublemaker from the UDC “. He was referring to his roommate Ruben Ramchurn, who opposed the criminal order accusing him of having participated in this trafficking in false certificates.

Christophe Loperetti was also sentenced the same day to a 60-day fine for driving while intoxicated and a 30-day fine for ill-treatment of animals. He had recovered two horses intended for butchery, but had to be euthanized due to lack of care.

The convicted person appealed.
