The children’s court in Nîmes, in the Gard, tried a 16-year-old teenager on Monday for abuse and acts of cruelty against an animal, in this case a cat. The alleged facts are chilling.
In 2022, the young accused, then only 14 years old, borrowed a rifle and shot a cat in his village of Bessèges, with a bullet to the head. The little feline named Juju was the mascot of the town as well as residents of the local retirement home, reports “Le Réveil du Midi”.
The teenager didn’t stop there. He had played football with the cat’s corpse, as if it were a ball. He filmed the scene with his phone, sent it to a friend, then finally disposed of the animal’s body in a trash can.
In court, the teenager admitted the facts. According to his lawyer, he today realized what he had done and regrets it, reports France Bleu.
This young person was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of 500 euros, which he will have to manage to pay out of his own pocket. Above all, he received a six-month judicial educational measure. During this period, it is specified, he will be followed by an educator, with a period of work within an animal protection association.
His parents were also sentenced to a fine of 1000 euros in damages, to be paid to the SPA, which had filed a civil suit.
