Live

Labor Day on May 1, this Wednesday, highlights the fight to lower bonuses and increase wages. Follow all the day’s events live.

  • The purchasing power of Swiss households is at the heart of the demands of May 1.
  • The message? Yes to the vote of June 9, 2024 on the premium reduction initiative. The latter aims to ensure that no one devotes more than 10% of their disposable income to it.
  • The other major priority concerns salaries: “the time has come for substantial increases”, demand the unionists.

The first figures concerning campaign budgets show this clearly: in the battle for the two health initiatives of the PS and the Center, money is flowing freely. For the electricity law, it is Alpiq, Axpo and others who are opening their wallets.

According to the Credit Suisse Concerns Barometer, no other political issue weighs as much on the Swiss population as health costs. On June 9, two popular initiatives dealing with this subject will be put to the vote. That of reducing PS premiums requires that they do not exceed 10% of disposable income. To do this, the Confederation and the cantons should significantly increase spending on premium reductions.
