Bukhara (Uzbekistan) – The coach of the Moroccan futsal selection, Hicham Dguig insisted, Saturday in Bukhara, on combativeness and confidence “in oneself and in God”, as factors that could tip the scales in favor of the Lions of the Atlas, during their quarter-final of the 2024 World Cup against Brazil.

“Technical play will not be enough in this match, you also need combativeness, good defensive organization and confidence in yourself and in God,” said Dguig before the last training session before this match, scheduled for Sunday .

“We consider that it is a decisive match that we will play for history and we will do our best to reach the semi-finals,” affirmed the Moroccan technician, who said he was aware of the value of the opponent .

“This is the most intense match that we are going to play during this edition, against the best futsal team in the world currently,” he underlined, recalling that “Brazil is a five-time world champion, one of the four teams that have won the World Cup so far and achieved good results during this edition.

Indeed, leader of the world ranking, Brazil largely honored its status during this edition, with an explosive first round, punctuated by three large victories against Cuba (10 – 0), Croatia (8-1) and Thailand (9-1). In the eighth, he ousted Costa Rica by 5 goals to 0.

Dguig also regretted the absences which reduced his group. “We have already played friendly with our entire group against Brazil and we made a good impression,” recalled the Morocco coach.

“Unfortunately, we would have fully displayed our technical skills if the team was complete, because the technical game requires physical freshness which is ensured by the rotation of the players,” he said.

Morocco will play its place in the last four for the first time in its history, Sunday in Bukhara, against Brazil. The Atlas Lions reached this same stage of the competition during the 2021 edition in Lithuania, and barely lost to the same opponent (0-1).
