At the microphone of France TV After her sixth place in the T12 marathon (visual impairment), para-athlete Rosario Murcia-Gangloff shared some touching confidences and is considering participating in the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

“I will first recover but it is very possible. It is even planned”. At 59, the oldest member of the French Paralympic Games delegation, Rosario Murcia-Gangloff, is already planning to take part in the Los Angeles Games in 2028. A bet that seems crazy for someone who finished 6th in the T12 marathon (visual impairment) this Saturday on the Esplanade des Invalides. But who, according to her, “It’s not a question of health or age.” “It’s in the mind”she said, moved, at the microphone of France TV.

At the end of the effort and a final fall a few meters from the finish line, the Frenchwoman wanted to thank her loved ones. And in particular her parents, who have passed away. “It was a very difficult course for me. I kept stumbling. But for me, the most important thing was to have finished the race. I went all the way. I am proud of my children who are here, of my parents who are up there, in heaven, and who were with me all the way. I am also proud of Mathieu (Leroux, her guide, Editor’s note) and of my husband who guided me during the first 10 kilometres.”

“We are experiencing something magical and extraordinary”

Between a few long breaths to catch her breath, Rosario Murcia-Gangloff encourages women and men to walk and run in a message full of common sense. “Enjoy your health. It is the most precious asset that one can have. Know, ladies and gentlemen, that it is sport that allows us to stay upright.”. This sports educator for the city of Béziers (Hérault) also highlighted the work of the French State and the president of Paris 2024 Tony Estanguet in the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.. We experienced a fantastic Paralympic Games, thank you Tony Estanguet, France and the State. We are experiencing something magical and extraordinary.”

A true force of resilience, Rosario Murcia-Gangloff is nevertheless a well-known figure in the Olympics. Among the able-bodied, the Frenchwoman participated in the Barcelona Games in… 1992, 32 years ago. In the meantime, the Lyon native suffered a retinal detachment before being struck down with glaucoma (a degenerative disease of the optic nerve). She suffered massive dehydration during the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki (Finland).
