The discovery: Par.sek, joyful apocalypse

With her blue hair as a woman, her dress, makeup and painted nails as a man, Par.sek has the fluidity of the groups of her time. Last May, during the beautiful tribute evening to Jean-Louis Murat organized at the Coopérative de Mai in Clermont-Ferrand where they are regularly in residence, Par.sek gave an intense version of the legendary Commit suicide the people are dead from the Auvergne renegade. An excellent cover idea for a trio whose lyrics, haunted by generational themes, readily speak “of love, of the end of the world and of love during the end of the world”, as they themselves claim.

Led by the slender and androgynous Simon, the singer-songwriter of the band, founder of the group in 2019, joined on stage by Coco on bass and Manon on video, Par.sek has already released three EPs and a few hybrid singles between acidulous song and synthetic acceleration, not devoid of black humor and sweet naivety, including the last one, Chat, last March.

Not totally desperate, but aware of the world they live in and ready to face it with a heavy heart but heads held high, Par.sek has the apocalyptic accents of other French groups of its generation, Ascendant vierge, Gwendoline or les Vulves assassines, but with a less dark sensitivity and a poorly concealed love of song, even variety. A bit like Elli and Jacno of the announced apocalypse. On stage, they excel. To make sure, you can find them on September 14 in Paris at the Scala Music Festival and until the end of the year in several cities in France.

La playlist

Suuns Overture

Under the spell of this track from the seventh album of the singer Ben Shemie’s group. Haunted delirium where his deep voice is placed on a strange crazy euro trance that turns into a devil’s fanfare. Maximum disturbing.

Super bravo Elli

The playful duo Armelle Pioline and Michel Peteau are back. A confluence of multiple universes, garage guitars à la Limiñanas, half-hip-hop half-drum’n’bass rhythm, spoken-sung that smiles. Not far from the hit.

Madvilla 6AM

Six o’clock in the morning on a Sunday. Two options: sleep or turn your head with this wild track between future funk and disco house, the work of an American producer based in England. We have chosen our side.

Tycho Devices

We liked Tycho for his ambient pastilles. We discover that the Californian likes to handle hot and cold. And that he knows how to transform himself into a maker of beats that take off and euphoric atmospheres.

Simone Ringer Both

If we put aside the vocal mimicry with mother Catherine, the young woman confirms with each solo single, after the unconvincing Minuit experience, a taste for an adventurous and quite enjoyable pop song.
