Joakim Brodén confirms new creations in progress

In a recent interview with Radioactive MikeZ for 96.7 KCAL-FM’s Wired In The Empire, Sabaton singer Joakim Brodén revealed that the Swedish band is already writing new material to follow up his 2022 album, The War to End All Wars. According to Brodén, the band’s creative process never really takes a break.

Still in creation

Brodén explained: “Yeah, we’re always working on new material it seems. When we finish an album, I’m like, ‘It’s okay, I’m sick of it, I don’t want to write any more for a while.’ But now, three months later, I’m already writing new music. Maybe I end up with one of the guitarists on tour, on a day off where there’s not much to do. Everything is closed, it’s Sunday. So we take our instruments and compose a song, because it’s always better than doing nothing.”

He adds: “We already have some equipment. So we won’t wait until we have a break after this tour to start writing. We’re already in the middle of it.”

An exhausting process

Joakim Brodén also described the feeling of exhaustion that comes over him after finishing an album: “When an album is ready, I – sorry to say – I hate it. I spend so much time in the studio writing, alone or with someone, doing pre-production, making sure everything is ready for the band to rehearse, and then I’m there throughout the recording in the studio. And when it comes time to mix, all I hear are the problems and the mistakes. At this point, I’m already tired of the songs.”

However, Brodén admits that he eventually comes to appreciate the album again, usually a year or two after its release, when he can finally listen to it more objectively.
