Santa Cruz hardcore band Scowl explores new musical directions with their latest single Not Hell, Not Heavenfrom the album Are We All Angels to be released on April 4, 2025 via Dead Oceans.
A poignant single
Not Hell, Not Heaven blends raw power and subtle melodies, marking a new stage in Scowl's sonic evolution. Directed by Sean Stout, the clip perfectly accompanies the atmosphere of the song.
Singer Kat Moss shares: “This song is about feeling like a victim, about being confronted with this reality, but refusing to identify with this state. It is a quest for grace in recognizing that we have the power to act on our lives.”

A rich and collaborative album
L’album Are We All Angels reflects an ambitious and eclectic musical approach. Produced by Will Yip and mixed by Rich Costey, this opus explores new textures while retaining the raw energy and punk ethos that define Scowl.
-Bailey Lupo, bassist of the group, explains: “The writing of this album was the most collaborative in our history. Each member brought a flood of ideas, and we took the time to refine them. Our varied tastes and influences are felt in every corner of this album.”
