Samsung finally reveals its new range of Galaxy smartphones. Welcome to the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra! Let’s see what the first two models have in store this year. Spoiler: we mainly find artificial intelligence there.
The beginning of the year ritual took place. True to form, the South Korean manufacturer Samsung presented the new series of smartphones Galaxy S during his event Unpacked. Say hello to the Galaxy S25! This isn’t the first time you’ve encountered them, though, given the numerous leaks they’ve been the subject of in recent months. But did they get it right? Overall: yes.
Let us focus here on the Galaxy S25 et Galaxy S25+ and let’s see what the firm has changed (or not) compared to last year’s models, the Galaxy S24. Design, performance, autonomy, photo, features, price… We tell you everything.
A more homogeneous design that gains in finesse
The first thing that jumps out at you is that Samsung wanted to go further in standardizing the design of its mobiles. Since a photo is worth a thousand words, take a look at the one below to see for yourself. The Galaxy S25 and S25+ therefore present rounded edges and tranches plates. Aside from their size, they are indistinguishable from each other at first glance.
The most attentive will notice that the 2 devices are slightly thinner than their predecessors, by exactly 0.4 mm. Which gives the following characteristics:
- Galaxy S25 :
- Dimensions : 146,9 x 70,4 x 7,2 mm.
- Weight : 162 g.
- Galaxy S25+ :
- Dimensions : 158,4 x 75,8 x 7,3 mm.
- Weight : 190 g.
The frame in aluminium Armor promises to protect smartphones from shocks and light falls, while the certification IP68 usual takes care of water and dust resistance. The screen is covered with a Gorilla Glass 2.
For the rest, Samsung has adopted the design of the S24. The Galaxy S25 and S25+ are available in 3 colorsknowing that 3 others (for each model) are exclusive to the copies sold on the samsung.com site.
Increased performance, but a battery that does not evolve
While we feared ending up with smartphones equipped with a Exynos 2500 processor in Europe, it is finally Qualcomm who is in charge. The S25 and S25+ thus feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite engraved in 3 nm, in other words a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 which does not say its name. We have known it for a long time: the chip is a monster of power. Whether you’re launching 18 apps at the same time or a resource-intensive 3D mobile game, phones will handle the shock without batting an eyelid.
The processor is accompanied by 12 Go to RAM in both models, an amount that is now standard among high-end smartphones. The display is on a 6.2-inch AMOLED screen for the S25 and of 6.7 inches for the S25+. On the definition side, we are respectively 2340 × 1080 pixels et 3 120 × 1 440 pixels. In both cases, the Maximum refresh rate is 120 Hzwhich ensures foolproof fluidity.
The small disappointment is at the level of the batterythe same as in previous models. That of the Galaxy S25 displays 4 000 mAh with a 25W charging speed. That of the Galaxy S25+ climbs to 4,900 mAh and 45 W. On the other hand, Samsung promises superior optimizationnotably thanks to the mDNI technologies (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) used by the processor. This should increase the real autonomy of mobiles, despite batteries identical to last year.
Finally, we note something new in terms of storage since the Galaxy S25 comes in a 3rd version with 512 GB of spacewhere the S24 was limited to 128 or 256 GB. An appreciable decision which leaves more choice to those interested.
Photo quality always there, inherited from the S24
No surprises in terms of the sensors of the Galaxy S25 and S25+, we take the same ones and start again. Samsung had already planned to use these from the S23 to the S25, and the firm kept its word:
-- Galaxy S25 :
- Grand angle : 50 MP, f/1.8, 24mm equivalent.
- Ultra grand angle : 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm equivalent.
- Telephoto lens : 10 MP, f/2.4, 67mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom.
- Selfie Sensor : 12 MP, f/2.2, 26mm equivalent.
- Galaxy S25+ :
- Grand angle : 50 MP, f/1.8, 24mm equivalent.
- Ultra grand angle : 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm equivalent.
- Telephoto lens : 10 MP, f/2.4, 67mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom.
- Selfie Sensor : 12 MP, f/2.2, 26mm equivalent.
As with autonomy, you have to look at the software aspect to find new features. THE ProVisual engine should significantly improve the quality of the shots, especially if you increase the shutter speeds. The video part benefits from 10-bit HDR recording, for optimal rendering even in low light. Not to mention what AI allows you to do after the shot.
Artificial intelligence more than ever at the heart of the experience
What would a high-end smartphone be without a plethora of AI features nowadays ? The Galaxy S25 is no exception to the rule and offers maximum possibilities. First of all, your conversations with Galaxy AI are done in natural language. Under the hood, the assistant chooses to use Gauss, Gemini or Bixby according to needs.
Speaking of discussions, let us note the arrival ofAction CrossAppwhich allowschain several actions into a single voice command thanks to a extension de Gemini. For the moment, 6 Google apps and 4 Samsung apps are compatible, as well as WhatsApp et Spotify. Others will be added to the list over time. Please note: Action CrossApp will be usable in French from February 7, 2025, not before. In the meantime, you will have to speak English.
Among the most notable new AI features, we find the Now BarSamsung’s response to the Dynamic IslandApple. It takes the form of a notification bar at the top of the lock screen and displays various information: real-time route, traffic conditions, sports results, music control, etc. Pressing the notification provides access to more interaction options.
In the same idea, the Now Brief is a daily summary which gives you useful past or future information. In the morning, for example, you can see the day’s weather and the quality of sleep recorded at night, or reminders about future activity. As on iOS, Now Brief is limited to two recaps per day.
The S25 can also use your habits to offer you predefined action routinesto be launched with a simple press. They are compatible with the connected objects present in your home, such as light bulbs or a smart speaker.
The function Circle to search becomes contextual. Once the element is surrounded, the AI will analyze the content to suggest related interactions: copy text, call a number, search for an object on a sales site, etc.
We will note the introduction of a And the audio capable of reduce 6 types of sounds on your videos : voices, music, wind, background noises, crowds and the sounds of Nature. A editing by artificial intelligence also appears, to create a video from the best moments of those you have previously selected.
The Galaxy S25 and S25+ also welcome theAI image creation tool unveiled with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. You can get a result from a text query, a drawing/image that you provide as a basis, or by mixing the 2 methods.
