Do you remember the days when we spent hours finding the perfect framing with our old film cameras? Well Picture Perfect masterfully captures this feeling with a very original game concept.
Developed during the “Built to Scale” game jam in just 96 hours, you play as a photographer armed with his trusty camera and your mission is to capture perfect moments by playing with the perspective and the positioning of your character.
It is a subtle mix between Monument Valley and a photo simulator, all sprinkled with an artistic direction that smells like a 90s cartoon. The developers have managed to create something unique that will make you see the world from a different perspective.
The controls are disarmingly simple:
- ZQSD to move in space
- Up/down arrows to zoom in/out
- Shift to crouch
- P to change pose
Each level is a new challenge that will ask you to think in 3D, playing with angles, shadows and sometimes even physics to get THE perfect shot. In short, it's not as simplistic a game as it seems.
The atmosphere of the game is totally zen and calming and the minimalist yet expressive graphics match perfectly with the soundtrack “More Questions than Answers” by Lee Rosevere who will gently rock you during your sessions.
The game also distils a subtle narrative touch through your photos. Without giving too much away, let's just say that each shot tells a touching story of a father and his daughter going on a road trip before she leaves for college.
The progression is perfectly calibrated… The first levels teach you the basics gently, then the difficulty gradually increases with the introduction of new concepts such as the play of light and shadow, the manipulation of objects in the setting, the synchronization of movements or even environmental puzzles that I found quite clever

Each new challenge will push you to think “outside the box” and you will see the satisfaction you will feel when you finally find THE solution!!!
Regardless, Picture Perfect quickly rose to the top of web games on itch.io for several days, and even took 20th place in the overall game jam rankings. Developers Ryan and Josh from Incredulous Interactive, touched by this warm welcome, continue to regularly improve their creation with regular updates.
A new version has just been released with its share of improvements and corrections and the creators are already thinking about the future: sandbox mode, new levels, porting to other platforms… The adventure has only just begun!
In short, if you are looking for a relaxing experience that will stimulate your brain while flattering your artistic fiber, look no further. Picture Perfect is available for free, so don't hesitate for a second to try it.
