Electric car news
Artificial intelligence is making its way into our cars on a massive scale and Mercedes-Benz is taking a major step forward with its new conversational navigation system. This innovative technology, developed in partnership with Google Cloud, promises to radically transform the interaction between the driver and their vehicle.
Artificial intelligence at the service of your comfort
The star brand now integrates Google Cloud's automotive AI agent into its vehicles. This new feature leverages the Gemini chatbot to provide a more natural and intuitive browsing experience. No more rigid and limited voice commands, make way for a real conversation with your Mercedes.
MBUX virtual assistant enriched by Google can now answer complex and contextual questions. For example, in a demonstration, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius was able to ask for restaurant recommendations while specifying his culinary preferences, and the AI immediately offered relevant options by including information about the terminals charging station nearby.
Advanced features for an optimal user experience
- Intelligent analysis of reviews and ratings of establishments
- Context memorization for ongoing conversations
- Personalized suggestions based on your preferences
- Location of fast charging stations close to points of interest
The system is able to retain information from a conversation to refine its recommendations. For example, you can ask “Where can I have dinner tonight?” then specify “I prefer Italian cuisine” and finally “Is there a charging station nearby?”. The assistant understands the flow of the conversation and adapts its responses accordingly.
Progressive deployment and accessibility
This new technology will debut in the next Mercedes CLA, the first car equipped with the new electrical architecture and the MB.OS 1.0 system. The brand then plans a massive deployment via remote updates for million vehicles already in circulation.
Mercedes also retains ChatGPT integration for other features. The two AI systems will coexist seamlessly, with the user only having to say “Hey Mercedes” to activate the most appropriate assistant for their request.
-Essential ease of use
Mercedes emphasizes the accessibility of its system. As Ola Källenius explains with humor: “The system must be so simple that a child of 5 ans or a member of the board of directors of Mercedes-Benz can use it”. This approach guarantees intuitive handling without requiring special training.
The integration of this technology meets a concrete need, particularly during journeys where consulting the smartphone is not possible or dangerous. The simplicity of searching for charging stations and points of interest represents a major asset for drivers of electric carsconsiderably simplifying journey planning.
This technological advancement marks a turning point in the automotive industry, placing Mercedes-Benz at the forefront of human-machine interface innovation.
