Starship apologizes after sharing deepfakes of An Yujin (IVE); Internet users are furious – K-GEN

Internet users are furious with Starship Entertainment, and that’s understandable.

The agency is currently at the center of controversy following a share on the agency’s official Weibo account. Weibo is the largest social network in China, and this is precisely where a problem has recently arisen.

A few days ago, Starship’s official account shared a post containing deepfake edits with inappropriate sexual content using the image of IVE member An Yujin. The post was later deleted, but fans had time to see the share.

Obviously, this led to immense criticism against Starship, with both the agency and the employee responsible for sharing being accused of sexual harassment.

Following this, Starship issued an official apology, citing awkwardness on the part of the employee, who supposedly shared the post unintentionally when he wanted to report it.

The agency said:

« Bonjour, ici Starship Entertainment.
We would like to address the post that went live on Starship Entertainment’s Weibo today.

This incident occurred during the process of reporting a malicious post, and the post has since been removed.

We sincerely apologize to the artist and fans who may have been upset by this post.
We will pay more attention to account management to ensure that such errors do not happen again.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Once again, we are truly sorry. »

As for Internet users, these excuses do not pass muster.

Indeed, in South Korea and China, it is pointed out that the share button and the report button are opposites on Weibo, and that it seems impossible to make a mistake. You even have to click several times on different pages to share a publication on the platform.

Fans and Internet users are therefore not taking it easy and are demanding more than a simple apology from the company after the public sharing of inappropriate deepfakes with sexual content targeting An Yujin.

For example, below is how to share a publication:
