A blockage in Greenland has direct effects on the temperature of La Belle Province. Here’s why.
Currently (and for the next few days), a blockage persists over Greenland. This blockage prevents the low pressure system stationed on the Newfoundland side from moving. This powerful system, which was initially a weather bomb, is therefore “on the spot”. Result: Quebec, especially the east of the province, will suffer the effects of this depression for a few more days.
Remember that a blockage occurs when the atmospheric context prevents the movement of certain systems. “For us, in Quebec, it is often an anticyclone positioned over Greenland which allows this blockage, because the depressions cannot follow their more usual trajectory,” explains Nicolas Lessard, meteorologist.
Gray sequence for Quebec
Here’s what’s on the menu for the coming week: snow, clouds and cold.
-
Snow
Huge amounts of snow are not expected this week, but rather intermittent snow. It won’t be heavy or heavy snow, but it will be present. It could therefore still accumulate moderately on the roads and cause blowing snow: two elements that should not be neglected when traveling.
Soleil
Take advantage of this cold but sunny Sunday, because Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the province will be more in the shadows. During these three days, southern Quebec will only be entitled to one hour of sunshine per day. We can therefore say that gray weather will dominate the week, even if we will be entitled to a little more vitamin D Monday, Friday and Sunday, still in the south of the province.
Temperatures
In addition to snow and gray weather, temperatures will be rather cold this week. Please note, we are not talking about freezing temperatures, but the mercury will still be below normal.
