As the show “A Sunday in the Country” returns to the air, we will have to count on the participation of the singer Santa. Here are her secrets.

For the start of the school yearA Sunday in the CountrysideFrédéric Lopez offers himself Santa. We tell you more about the young singer who has been setting the French scene alight in recent months.

Where does Santa come from?

Santa was born on February 24, 1993 in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). Her real name is Samantha Eckert-Cotta. Her mother, Diana, is American and singer of the group Daisy Duck while her father Gérard is an architect. My parents, it’s a musical comedy“, said the young woman to the Figaro in interview.

Santa remains very linked to the South of France, she who studied at the Lycée Masséna in Nice and met at school her friend and now guitarist, Romain Adamo known as Adam as well as Laura Christin known as Line, bassist.I love nature and I am attached to the light of the Côte d’Azur“, added the singer to the daily newspaper. Santa now lives in Paris in the Belleville district, according to Purepeople.

In 2009, she launched the English-speaking pop rock group Hyphen Hyphen with her friends Line and Adam. Very quickly, they gave concerts in Nice and then in Paris. Spotted by David Rapetti, the group then found a promoter who allowed them to multiply concerts all over France. After two EPs, they released their first studio album in 2015: Times. It was in 2016 that everything changed for Santa. His band Hyphen Hyphen won the Victoire de la Musique Révélation scène. The band performed concerts around the world and went on a European tour.

In 2022, however, Santa decided to sail solo. She released her first EP entitled 999. On top is then a power tube; Salty popcorn. Thanks to word of mouth and over time, the song became a hit in the charts. “For a song that comes out of my room, and that was never meant to see the light of day or at least not fall into ears other than mine, it’s an enchantment. And when I receive all these messages, it’s a whirlwind of joy.” she said to Purecharts.

Salty popcorn will finally take its place on a real album, in 2024, entitled Start me over. “If the song had not met with this success, I think I would not have made an album. It would have remained the EP, which is already the result of this Salty popcorn. How do I continue to tell the story? I write songs and I found them almost immodest because they weren’t made to be listened to. Here, they are dressed, I had fun and I project myself into a total artistic impulse. It’s a choice that was made little by little,” she added to the site.

Santa has announced his Zénith tour for 2025 and doesn’t hide his dream: to write for Céline Dion!

Santa at the Paris Paralympic Games

Santa’s fame took on a new dimension during the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. On Sunday, September 8, the 31-year-old singer covered a hit by one of the biggest stars of French song: Live for the best, by Johnny Hallyday. A masterful performance, with a powerful voice.

“What a great song and what a challenge (I can’t tell you how nervous I was) thank you for all your messages and for celebrating these great athletes!”she exclaimed at the end of her performance on the stage of the Stade de France, despite the rain.

Is Santa in a relationship?

In his songs, Santa talks about couples and relationships with women. The artist has never hidden his homosexuality, especially in his songs. “We came out in high school, not in front of the tabloids.”explained Santa in a joint interview with Line, member of Hyphen Hyphen, to the newspaper The Parisian in 2020.

However, violence has not spared them: “Speaking out was also unconsciously a form of liberation and revenge, a response to the insults we received like ‘dirty lesbians’ or to friends who turned away from us as teenagers.” In 2018, Santa revealed to the newspaper Release be “in a relationship, with a woman who also works in music” in Paris. What about today? Santa is still keeping that secret…
