Jinjer talks about the most memorable songs of his career

In an exclusive interview with Metal HammerTatiana Shmayluk and Eugene Abdukhanov, singer and bassist respectively of the Ukrainian band Jinjer, shared the five songs that they believe best define their careers. This conversation took place backstage at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, just before their performance as support for Sepultura.

Fish : the essential anthem

Jinjer's first choice is no surprise Fishfrom the album King Of Everything (2016). This track, which has become a true pillar of their discography, exploded thanks to a live video published on YouTube, today accumulating nearly 90 million views.

“I guess it was the video that brought attention to the song,” explains Tatiana. Eugene adds: “It was the last single from the album and we didn't think it would become this big. The video was simple, shot in the studio, unpretentious.”

I Speak Astronomy: a masterful work

Always taken from King Of Everything, I Speak Astronomy holds a special place in Eugene's heart: “I think it’s one of the best songs we’ve ever written. Musically, in terms of arrangements, vocal lines… everything is perfect.”

Third choice of the group, Teacher, Teacher!from the EP Micro (2019), addresses strong societal themes.

Another title taken from Micro also stands out: Perennial. This piece, full of emotion and power, represents another facet of the group, mixing technique and intensity.

Finally, Jinjer chose Green Serpenttheir most recent single, released in November 2024. This song addresses the difficult theme of alcoholism, adding an introspective and personal dimension to the group's repertoire.

A promising future with Duel

These choices offer insight into Jinjer's artistic evolution. The next album, Dueldue February 7 via Napalm Records, promises to continue this dynamic with new musical and thematic explorations.
