In tears, Calogero recounts this event which changed his destiny in A Sunday in the Country

This December 22, Calogero spoke in A Sunday in the countryside about his childhood and a defining moment that changed his life in front of Frédéric Lopez.

This Sunday, December 22, Frédéric Lopez received a new group of guests: the musician Calogero, the comedian Nora Hamzawi and the author Valérie Perrin in A Sunday in the countryside. By the fireside, in the attic or in the veranda of the house, the discussions go well and allow everyone to look back on the highlights of their lives. Among them, the musician Calogero, recently the victim of a burglary, looks back on his not at all linear life journey.

“Your son will do nothing with his life”: These very harsh words that the principal of his college said about Calogero and that he recounts in A Sunday in the countryside

In the attic of the show's house, secrets are still flowing. Sitting in a leather club, Calogero looks back with great emotion on his academic failure in his childhood: “I no longer wanted to go to school, there was only one thing left that fascinated me: history. I looked at the historical friezes.” A little later, he remembers his entry into college, which was also traumatic : “In sixth or fifth grade, a middle school principal told my parents, 'Your son won't do anything with his life.'”. His mother, terribly shocked by these words, tries to defend her son. The future singer is therefore suggested to take a technical course and become an electrician. By listening to Depeche mode whose has many sounds which make one think of noise of pipes, Calogero has a revelation. He will be a plumber!

I wanted to show them that I was going to do something with my life” : In A Sunday in the countrysideCalogero recounts the moment that changed everything in his life

The turning point for him came later when one day his father was ashamed of him. He steals records from stores and gets caught by security guards. “What are you looking for?” his brother asks him. That day, when he returned home, his father did not speak to him. When talking about this moment, the musician has tears in his eyes. “My life changed, I started my group a week later. I felt like I had to prove myself. I wanted to show them that I was going to do something with my life. Two weeks later, he was very proud because we made our first songs.“This humiliation was a trigger in the musician’s life.
