Death Metal band Possessed’s vocalist Jeff Becerra is speaking out about allegations he had inappropriate conversations with an underage fan, sparking backlash in the metal community.

Screenshots and audio of exchanges between Possessed singer Jeff Becerra and 16-year-old fan Sophia have emerged online. These documents show, according to Sophia, inappropriate comments and requests deemed inappropriate on the part of the musician.
Guest on the podcast Kill the PosersSophia detailed these interactions, saying she admired the singer and had a “soft spot” for him, which prompted her to initiate discussions online. However, she claims that Becerra allegedly crossed the line by asking her, among other things, not to keep evidence of their exchanges.
“It’s disappointing because he’s an artist that I admired a lot,” Sophia said, adding that she wanted to call out problematic behavior in the metal scene.

In a statement released via MetalSucksJeff Becerra admitted to having exchanged with Sophia and her boyfriend about topics related to metal. However, he denied any malicious intent, explaining that his comments had been taken out of context.
“My mistake was being too relaxed and making jokes that were misinterpreted,” he admitted.
Becerra added that he blocked Sophia after she made inappropriate comments to him, but then manipulated screenshots circulated online.
The singer apologized for having lacked discernment and said he was sorry for having disappointed his fans: “I understand that communicating with every fan can be irresponsible and create uncomfortable situations. I am learning from this experience and I will continue to evolve.”
