The Minister of Culture presented the medal to the singer Vitaa, who expressed her emotion on Instagram.

New achievement in Vitaa’s career. The singer was decorated with the medal of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by Rachida Dati, as she revealed on Wednesday, June 26 on Instagram.

The interpreter of Promise me published a video of the ceremony, during which the Minister of Culture praised his “tenderness” and his “kindness that everyone perceives”, “key to (his) relationship with the public.”

“I never wanted to be a star”

“If someone had told me in my little room in the depths of the Lyon suburbs that one day I would be decorated with the title of Knight of Arts and Letters by Minister Rachida Dati, I would never have believed it,” writes Vitaa in the caption of the video.

She also gives a nod to Diam’s, who revealed her to the general public in 2006 with their duet Confessions nocturnes:

“My sister (…) once wrote: ‘I don’t give a damn about being a star, about waiting for time to pass / Stars fade away, one day or another, we replace them’.” A quote from the song “Petite banlieusarde”, taken from the album “Dans ma bulle” by the former rapper.

“I never wanted to be a star, I just wanted to be an artist who accomplished herself by writing texts to reach others,” she continues. “If someone had told me at the time, ‘Choose who you want to be’, I would have chosen to be an artist to transmit.”

Vitaa, real name Charlotte Gonin, enjoyed resounding success in the mid-2000s before going through a less prosperous period. Her career has enjoyed a new golden age since 2019, when she released VersuS, first of his two joint albums with singer Slimane. She made her solo comeback last year with the album Charlotte.
