Elton John reveals why he won’t tour again

The singer of Rocket Man confirmed that he was saying goodbye to the stage for good in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight. The reason ? Taking care of her family and her two boys, aged 13 and 11.

After more than 50 years of career and tours around the world, Elton John has confirmed that he will have performed his very last concert in July 2023 in Stockholm, the last date of his tour Farewell Yellow Brick Road. And if he regrets nothing about his long career, the 77-year-old singer seems more determined than ever to stop, for his own good and that of his loved ones.

To the question “Do you intend to one day go back on the road?”, the Rocketman interpreter answered a very firm “no”. “After the last show of the farewell tour in Stockholm, I got in the car and said: ‘Yes! Yeah!” We came out on the biggest peak, just like I wanted, and there’s no turning back [après] “this,” he told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on June 27.

While he was accompanied by his husband since 2014, David Furnish, the latter gave the reason for this important decision. “We have our sons, you know, they’re going into adolescence now,” he said. The couple are parents to two sons: Zachary Jackson, 13, and Elijah Joseph, 11. “We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be there for that. It’s kind of a key decade, I think, in a child’s life.”

“I had the best career”

During his last date in July 2023, the singer looked back with emotion on his entire career. “I had the most beautiful career,” he said on stage. “Fifty-two years of pure pleasure playing music (…) But you know, I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you (…) You know how much I love playing live. It’s my life to play for you. You were absolutely magnificent.”

But while Elton John has said he no longer wants to perform, he hasn’t said he no longer wants to sing. “I’ll never tour again, but I might do something in the future,” he said enigmatically before leaving the stage. Maybe a new album to come?
