“When I hear Koba LaD who doesn’t know IAM” says Soprano indignantly

Soprano praises his friends La Fouine and Sinik and IAM but castigates the new generation of French rappers for their lack of musical culture, taking the example of Koba LaD who admits not knowing the famous Marseille group with its cult album “The school of micro money”.

Soprano made her big return to the music scene with her new album “Freedom”. After an absence of three years since “Chasseur d’étoiles”, the Marseille singer offers us an opus composed of 12 tracks, mixing committed messages and dancing rhythms to reach a wide audience. Faithful to its unique style, Soprano surrounds itself with a great range of artists for this project. We thus find Nej, Youssoupha, S.Pri Noir, Vacra, and even his own daughter Luna, for new collaborations full of freshness.

To promote this project, in an interview given for the show Le Code, Soprano discussed why he does not use vulgar remarks in his lyrics and his concerns regarding the new generation of French rappers. The member of Psy 4 De La Rime regrets the lack of cultural transmission between generations and calls for a more constructive dialogue between artists, he deplores the lack of knowledge of younger rappers about the history of rap and the role played by pioneers of the genre, such as IAM. He believes that his generation, with La Fouine, Sinik and himself, did not succeed in transmitting their knowledge and culture to subsequent artists.

Soprano acknowledges, however, that it may also be the fault of his generation, which did not make enough effort to create a bond with younger rappers. He finds it worrying that rappers like Koba LaD don’t know IAM, a group that played a crucial role in the popularization of rap in France in the 90s.
