Celine Dion biography: Every song has its story

Many biographies on the life of Celine Dion have emerged over the years. Here is a brand new one, signed Thomas Chaline, which focuses on the star through around forty of his songs, which also allows us to discover his entourage as well as various facets of Charlemagne’s diva.

“His life was nothing but music”, writes the author Thomas Chaline in his work Celine Dion – a life in songs.

When you have spent practically your whole life singing, inevitably music has taken up all the space. Thus, we can understand that if Céline no longer sings, her life is completely destabilized. Céline loves to sing, and singing has practically been her reason for being.

In this book, several aspects of the creative process are explored in depth. But what stands out more are the members of the entourage, those that she and René (at the time) chose as lyricists in particular.

Make your wildest dreams come true

The author wonders: how could a little girl believe in her wildest, most inconceivable dreams?

Certainly, her entourage had a lot to do with it, but we always come back to Céline’s great determination.

Thomas Chaline, who notably interviewed Fabienne Thibeault, obtained some answers in this regard. She talks about her family who supported her, loved her and believed in her.

The author also returns to the mother of the Dion clan, Thérèse, who wrote her first song and who approached her manager, René Angélil, with the famous cassette on which her first creation was recorded. We all know the story, but we probably like to remember it, because it is beautiful, unique and full of love.

René and Céline then knew how to choose the best lyricists. We think of Eddy Marnay, Luc Plamondon and Jean-Jacques Goldman, in particular.

BRIAN PURNELL OF MUSHROOM CREATI

The author returns to the musical adventure with Jean-Jacques Goldman who knew how to understand the young Céline by writing, We don’t changewhich is in some way a reflection of Céline’s childhood.

“The skinny, worried little girl that I was is still in me,” Céline confided.

Several other Céline songs are autobiographical. We think of Talk to my father, A New Day Has Come, I’m Alive, I don’t forget you.

A chapter is devoted to the song, one more evening which represents difficult times for Céline while her husband, her manager, the father of her children suffers from throat cancer.

It was in January 2016 that René bowed out after three years of agony and suffering. While Céline is in residence in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, she will tuck him in every evening, hoping that the love remains one more evening. After this fatal night, Céline said: “It was quick. He didn’t feel anything. I believe he was freed from his suffering. »

Many successes

Among the forty successes, we mention My Heart Will Go On, Let’s Talk About Love, If it was enough to love, That’s the Way It Is, If You Asked Me To, So that you love me again, I don’t know, I will go where you go, The Last will be first, We don’t change, Falling into You, The Power of Love et Taking Chances. Songs that had as much importance in Céline’s heart as those from her very beginnings like, It was just a dream, Of love or friendship or even Incognito.

Those she sang as a duet, we think of Downwind with Garou, Tell Him with Barbra Streisand or even Immortality with the Bee Gees were also, for the diva, moments of great pride. She was the one who took the initiative to sing with Streisand, Bryan Adams, the Bee Gees, Andrea Bocelli and Frank Sinatra.

The anecdotes in this work are numerous, as are the notable moments of Céline’s career. We also come back to his first song in English, Where Does My Heart Beat Now.

“I was only 13 years old at that time, but I dreamed of having an international career,” says Céline in an interview. “I’m an Aries, I’m hard-headed and when I want something… I want to sing all over the world and I’m going to make it happen. »

The teenager was not wrong. She succeeded in her challenge with flying colors.
